This video works well with the sound effects as there are not too many going on. I like the way Dylan walks out the door and i am washing my hands as it gives the impression that it could have been one of us who had done the deed. Overall i found it enjoyable working as a team because we could bounce ideas off each other. Because of this we were able to create a decent advert for BBC 2.

This edit has too many sound effects going on and causes distraction whilst watching the video.

For our final edit we are going to take a few of these sounds out and keep it simple.

This videos sound effects don't quite fit the video we think it needs some kind of build up when walking through the door, so for our next edit we will try this and see if it works.

i was in charge of editing the video and decided to do it on final cut pro. Here is a screen grab of me editing the video.

i like this software as it is a lot easier to use compared to iMovie.

The filming of the video

The filming of the video was done by Lewis on his Cannon 550d DSLR. This is a good camera for filming so will give a higher quality video compared to our test shot.

The final video will be edited on final cut pro and then compressed in iMovie to make the file small enough to be loaded onto this blog.

Making our number 2

We decided to make a number 2 to look like human excretion. to do this we got some brown felt from the shop and cut out a number 2. we then cut out another number 2 the same size from mount board and stuck the felt on top. this would help it float.

First video

For a test video this was a simple idea and would have looked a lot better with a decent video camera. This was filmed on a flip camera which lacks quality. If we were to do this again we would have to make our own number 2 and film it on a DSLR camera with good video capabilities.

Experimentation

We first decided to try and experiment doing a video in the studio using a pre made see-through number 2. Inside and around we placed torches to light up the number 2 when the lights were turned off. In the background someone would be walking across behind the number 2 and then turn off the light. the sound effects would be someone whistling a tune and the light switch turning off.

This was filmed using a Flip camera which we later found out lacked quality as you can see on our video above. If we were to do this again we would rectify this by using a higher quality video camera.

BBC Ident Introduction

For this assignment we have been asked to make our own BBC ident. Idents are the clips that are played before starting each program. Here are a few examples of past Idents.

we are to work in a group of 5 to make our own BBC 2 ident. Each person will be given a set a role within the group - the roles are:

- Camera man - Lewis

- Lighting - Dylan - Prop Stylist - - Set Designer - - Editor - George (me)

We will have to sort everything out ourselves - the Idea of our BBC 2 Ident, Props and setting that we need, Materials, We will also have to do research on other BBC 2 Idents to help us get ideas. Our film/clip will last about 10-30-seconds. We are allowed to edit or final Ident on any program we like.

The aims of this assignment are:

- To develop understanding of studio/Location techniques for moving imagery media productions - Develop design methods, techniques, and technologies - To produce experimental studio/day light lighting techniques - To develop skills when filming with a DV digital video camera and tripod - To develop skills when editing with video software and audio techniques.Throughout this assignment we are encouraged to be as creative as possible: - The number '2' must be featured within our Ident - It must last for approx. 10-30-seconds - If sound is used it must be ambient in nature and appropriate for our theme - The idea we come up with must be practically possible to create

Evaluation

For this assessment we had to Create a range of stop motion films, at home, college and on location. I used a Cannon 5D in the studio and a Cannon 500D at home or on location. In the studio i would sometimes experiment with a tripod, and using different backgrounds and settings and at home i would draw my ideas down on paper. After shooting the images i uploaded them and used Final Cut Pro to produce the video.

My initial inspiration was a advert by Innocent as i remembered when this was shown on TV. This was because at the time i didn't know how it was filmed and how the jerky movements were achieved. However by doing this assignment i quickly realised this is how it was done and i couldn't wait to make my own. Overall i am pleased and think that the work from the other artists helped me with my final ideas. I think my final videos work well and that the final outcome looks professional. I believe i have created and effective piece of work that is at quite a high standard. However to improve this i would spend more time in the planning stage and reduce the size of the movements of the subject after each shot. To conclude i am very please with my videos and have thoroughly enjoyed this project. From now on, every stop frame advert i see on TV i will appreciate the time, effort and skill that has gone in to produce it.

Dylan and i thought of this idea to create a scene with a band playing with no instruments. Dylan photographed this video and i was "the lead singer". We then edited it together on Final Cut and added some music to fit the scene. overall the video could have been better but for the comedy value and the sheer randomness, it has worked out reasonably well.

Bellow are a few images showing the editing process done in Final Cut. I prefer using Final Cut to iMovie because it dosnt restrict you, for example the fastest iMovie will let you play a image for is 0.38 seconds whereas final cut can do it in 0.1 seconds.

The Dead Bananna

This video was created using iMovie as it allowed me to upload images and put them into a stop motion video. The original idea was to just have the bananna unappealing itself, but i decided to make it a little more interesting. i decided to have a knife enter the scene and chop the bananna into pieces.

This is my design of a scene with a bananna peeling itself frame by frame. It will be shot on the kitchen table or kitchen surface. I saw a video that included fruit and this influenced me in designing this storyboard.

Liquid Stop Motion Film

This video worked as i planned. it was taken in my kitchen and the only thing i changed from my plan was to make the cup go empty after it gets full. If i was to do this again i would make sure there was no water droplets on the table before each frame and i would also change the liquid, maybe a beer. i am not that pleased with my timings of the sound on the editing so my next film i will make that a priority. Overall i am happy with my attempt as the quality of the photographs are good and the volume of liquid added each time was consistent.

A Walk In the Park

This is the simple stop motion that i created today. This video shows Sammy walking along a path on the way to the park. This is a simple stop motion but also shows how simple it is to make.

My First Stop Motion Film

Today we went outside armed with a tripod and a camera to take photo's to produce a basic stop motion video. I used Sammy as my model and had her walking down a path. se then stumbled upon a play park and becomes excited, quickly taking her coat and bag off so she can go and play. I really enjoyed taking these photos as it was good fun and a lovely day.

When we had the images we came back into the class room to make them into a small stop motion video. i used Final cut to make this video as there are no restrictions compared to other software such as iMovie. This software allows you to simply make all of the still images into a simple stop motion movie.

Equipment Used

For the shoot we used a Canon 5d which is a brilliant all round camera. this had a EF 24-105mm F4.0 IS lens which is perfect for portrait shots.

We attached the camera to this Canbo studio camera stand to give us the angle we needed for shooting.

We also used the studios Bowen lighting for the shoot to get the best lighting conditions. This includes the pantograph system, soft boxes and the backdrop

Stop Frame Video 3

In this video we showed Sammy walking down the street, swinging her suitcase and eventually dropping it. Grey sheets were used to crate the path, blue for the sky and white and yellow for the clouds and sun. This scene involved needed more people out of shot, to help move sammy the clouds and the sun. This enabled the images to be taken quicker and resulted in less shooting time. This is probably the best stop frame video out of the three we did on Wednesday. This is because the movements were not as big and the scale of the scene was good.

Stop Frame Video 2

This stop frame video was created to try and minipulate a skateboarder riding a half-pipe. We used fabric to create the scene, yellow for the ramp and red and purple for the background and sky. The idea was to try and move Dylan and his skateboard in a way that made him look like he was riding the half-pipe but this did not work as well as hoped. We did not have enough room in the studio to make it look realistic which resulted in Dylan and his skateboard being the size of the ramp. However the idea was good and the movements were generally good especially the ending when he lands in a heap on the floor.

Stop Frame Video 1

The first video we created today was a series of photographs of me swimming in the sea. The background was created using different coloured sheets and the photos were taken with a Canon 5d. This was our first attempt at making a stop frame video and the video shows this lack of experience. the movements are too jerky as i was moving my body too much between each photograph. to improve this video i would make use more props, have things moving in the background rather than having just the subject in the frame. overall i think the first attempt was good but has highlighted several areas for improvement.

Stop Frame Studio Experiments

Today I went into the studio to try some deferent ideas and experiment with stop frame photography. Working in a group we created three different scenes and acted out different movements, moving the background and the subject. Using different types of fabrics and objects we created different backgrounds and scenes to use in the videos.
We needed various equipment to make the video, including a Canon 5d, Bowens lighting equipment, Cambo camera stand, step lader and various props. Stop frame photography can be very successful if done correctly but this takes time. There are various things to consider when producing stop frame videos such as:

camera settings
positioning
what is in the frame
what movements are going to happen in each image
size of the movements, big if you what it to be jerky, small if you want it to flow smoothly
who is going to move the objects
lighting

I really enjoyed being in the studio creating the scene and shooting the pictures as it made me realized how long stop frame photography takes.

Coldplay - Strawberry Swing

Coldplay used stop frame photography in their video for Strawberry Swing. What makes me appreciate this video more is the time it would have taken to make, knowing that each second has 24 photographs in. This means that they would have had to take about 5960 photographs for this 4 minute 14 second film. I like the way that each photograph is taken from above and the camera is in exactly the same position, just the subject and the background changes.

This was the first advert created by Innocent and was done using stop frame photography. I like this because it uses a narrow depth of field leaving the subject in focus and the background blurry. I also like the way they uses a simple idea and photograph it in a simple setting leaving the focus on the carton and fruit.
